(Indianapolis) -- United Way officials in Indianapolis are warning people to be on the lookout for a scam. United Way of Central Indiana President and CEO Ellen Annala says people are getting letters with a check for 32-hundred-dollars and being told that they have won a prize. The bogus checked are supposed to be cashed to pay for taxes on the prize, but UWCI officials say the checks are a scam and can leave people with large debts to their banks. This is the second time this year that the organization has warned people about scams being perpetrated by criminals using the United Way name in the area.
