Reported by: Web Producer Thursday, Nov 19, 2009 @07:27am CST Americans had better stock up on whatever remains of the Eggo frozen waffle supply because there's a shortage on the horizon.
Kelloggs, which makes the popular waffles has been hit by multiple problems at the Atlanta, Georgia plant where the breakfast food is created. ABC News reports the plant was shuttered through most of September and October after Listeria was found in a sample of Eggos. Listeria can be dangerous to pregnant women, newborns and those with compromised immune systems. Kellogg not only stopped production but also recalled thousands of cases of Eggos. Following a thorough cleaning the plant was ready to restart when heavy rain flooded it. Kelloggs went through the entire cleansing process again. While the Georgia Eggo factory is back up and stamping out waffles at a frantic pace the supply chain in some parts of the U.S. is all but empty of product. The company says shortages could continue through the first half of next year. Eggos are also produced at plants in California and New Jersey. |
