Most Thanksgiving holiday travelers will be traveling by car instead of flying. Triple-A predicts 38-point-four-million Americans will travel at least 50 miles away from their home, an increase of one-point-four-percent from last year. About 86-percent will drive, while just six-percent plan to fly. The auto and travel group says air travel during Thanksgiving has tumbled 62-percent since 2000. Higher ticket prices, flight delays and reduced capacity are blamed on the severe downturn in air travel overall. There are a few price breaks for travelers this Thanksgiving. Triple A's Leisure Travel Index finds car rental rates have dropped three percent over last year's rates. Triple A Three Diamond lodgings will likely be eleven percent lower over rates in 2008. Also, the lowest published airfares for the holiday weekend are expected to decline four percent from last year to an average of 170-dollars for a roundtrip ticket.
