Reported by: Josh Breslow Friday, Nov 20, 2009 @07:12pm CST The post office in the Hopkins County town of Nebo will shut its doors next Friday, as part of an emergency suspension.
A spokesperson for the United States Postal Service says the building is in bad condition and it would cost too much to repair. She adds all 148 post office boxes will be rerouted to an office nearly four miles away in Manitou. Resident Shawn Roberts has started a petition to move the post office to another location in Nebo. "A lot of citizens in Nebo, the elderly men and women are really concerned it is going to have an adverse impact on them," said Roberts. The USPS spokesperson says just because the post office is under emergency suspension, does not mean it will be shut down permanently. |
