  • Millions Of Cribs Recalled
    Reported by: Web Producer

    Tuesday, Nov 24, 2009 @08:42am CST

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is recalling more than two-million drop-side cribs. The products were all produced by Stork Craft Manufacturing of British Columbia. Included in the recall are about 147-thousand Stork Craft drop-side cribs with the Fisher-Price logo. The CPSC says various malfunctions of the cribs pose choking, suffocation and other hazards to children. Four infants have died in crib-related accidents. The CPSC is asking parents and caregivers to immediately stop using the recalled cribs, wait for a free repair kit and not to try to fix the cribs without the kit. The free repair kit converts the drop-side of the crib to a fixed side and can be obtained through the Stork Craft website at StorkCraft.com The agency says the drop-side plastic hardware of the affected cribs can break, deform or fall off. The issue can cause the side to detach in one or more corners, creating a hazardous space between the crib and the mattress. Retailers in the U.S. who sold the affected cribs include JC Penney, Kmart, Meijer, Sears, USA Baby and Wal-Mart. Online vendors include Amazon, Babiesrus, Costco, Target and Walmart. The cribs were sold from January 1993 through October of this year.
