(London, England) A new study says a half-degree rise in the temperature of the Atlantic Ocean can cause a 40-percent increase in hurricanes. Scientists at University College London say ocean warming is directly linked to frequency, strength and duration of hurricanes. However, some U.S. researchers said last week that global warming could reduce the number of hurricanes hitting the U.S., theorizing that warmer water creates conditions that prevent storms from forming.
