(Washington, D.C.) The UN's secretary-general is pushing President Bush to assume a stronger leadership role in talks on a new pact to combat global warming. During December talks in Bali on climate change, the U.S. changed its stance on the issue and joined 190 nations in agreeing to negotiate a new pact by late 2009. Following a visit with Bush at the Oval Office on the issue of global warming, Ban Ki-moon told the president, quote, "I count on your leadership and active participation." The Bali talks seek to tie all countries to emission curbs beginning in the year 2013. (Copyright 2007 Newsroom Solutions, LLC) Delivered by Newsroom Solutions RNS-02-15-08 1614CST |
