Green Travel Destinations in Honor of Earth Day

If "going green" to you means traveling green, here are a few ideas.
((They come from smartertravel.com which is following and offering new eco-friendly travel destinations))
There are domestic and international destinations including New York City, Berkeley, Wales, Iceland, Copenhagen, and more.
Here is a sample of a few places for the eco-tourist in all of us:
THE BIG "GREEN" APPLE. It's not easy being green, but all things eco-chic have taken over Manhattan, especially in the East Village. There are organic baked goods from Birdbath Neighborhood Green Bakery and environmentally friendly designer clothes from Kaight. And don't forget to swing by Counter, one of the few hot spots in the city serving up organic martinis. You won't have to spend a fortune to feel good about yourself and Mother Earth.
GREEN IT UP WITH THE BRITS. With two national parks and England's five tallest mountains, Cumbria is a natural paradise waiting to be discovered. Since so much of the land is protected and properly looked after, it only makes sense that so many local establishments follow suit with organic offerings. Some attractions include Low Sizergh Barn - a must stop for any eco-friendly farm lover. The Village Bakery only uses organic ingredients and the shop bakes everything with renewable energy and packages its breads in biodegradable bags. Need a place to sleep? Moss Grove Organic Hotel, located in Grasmere, uses low-impact practices that will wow you almost as much as the surrounding fells.
HAVE A "GREEN" BOSTON TEA PARTY. Across the Charles River from downtown Boston, you'll find a city with a green conscience. Be sure to check out Veggie Planet for a bite. The nonprofit bakery doubles as a homeless service provider and only uses organic dough, making it a real do-gooder. Shop Greenward for a variety of fashionable and functional home goods, gifts, and other fun knick-knacks. The Hotel Marlowe, a boutique-style hotel, incorporates green practices throughout, including adding in-room recycling bins, conserving energy and water, and using environmentally friendly cleaning supplies.
