From: City of Evansville Mayor's Office City-County Building Commissioner to Retire (EVANSVILLE, IN) – Roger Lehman will retire from his position as City-County Building Commissioner on April 30, 2009. “I have been blessed with a loving family; great friends, city administrations, department heads and employees who genuinely care about people, my dedicated and hard working staff, and a multitude of great contractors and designers. I am confident my successor will maintain the high level of professionalism and integrity demonstrated over the past decades,” said Roger Lehman. Lehman was hired in 1975 as a CETA (Comprehensive Employment Training Act) Housing Inspector while attending the University of Evansville, where he graduated with a Masters in Urban Affairs. In 1976, Lehman was promoted to the position of Department of Housing Liaison to CAPE. Lehman was promoted to Assistant Building Commissioner in 1978 and appointed Building Commissioner in 1986 by Mayor Michael Vandeveer. Among the honors Lehman has received during his tenure as Building Commissioner, he was named State Building Official of the Year in 1990 and in 2000 was named Project Impact National Public Sector Employee of the Year by FEMA. Lehman also trained and organized a Post-Disaster Hazard Assessment Team following the November tornadoes. He plans to start a building code consulting firm following his retirement. |
