Olympic gold medal winner Michael Phelps has written a book. The children's book titled "How To Train with a T. Rex and Win 8 Gold Medals" is a collaboration with illustrator Ward Jenkins for the picture book that encourages children to exercise and work toward a goal. Samples of the book posted by publisher Simon and Schuster claim Phelps won all that gold thanks to a three-hour nap he took every day adding up to 273 days. The picture shows Phelps going from well shaven to a long haired bearded person on a couch. It appears his bulldog naps an equal amount of time. The Olympian didn't spend all his time sleeping. He says he also ate enough broccoli to fill the back of a pickup truck and while training he swam the equivalent of the length of the Great Wall of China three times or from his home in Baltimore to the North Pole and back -- twice. In the book Phelps also claims his legs became so strong that he could leg press a Tyrannosaurus Rex and a whole bunch of velociraptors or one New York City subway car. His daily calorie consumption with all that work amounted to ten-thousand calories or 912 pizzas. In the end he makes the point, it took a lot of hard work to win eight gold medals. The 32-page hardcover book is available at Amazon.com for just over 12 dollars. (Copyright 2009 by Newsroom Solutions) RNS-06-15-09 0534CDT |
