Reported by: Jason Claspell Friday, Sep 4, 2009 @04:12pm CDT Henderson is the first of 10 cities in the Common Wealth taking part in a program called."The River Cities Project".
The U.K.'s school of design kicked off the study with an exhibit of photographs at River Bend Academy The goal of the exhibit is to inspire people to become involved in the future landscape of the city. Michael Speaks is the Dean of Architecutre for U.K.'s College of Design says "It's the ultimate in sustainability to turn an old piece of infrastructure into a new use. You don't have to tear it down, build a new building. It has a lot of character, so there's a lot in that facility and in the city itself" In addition to the main goal of revitalizing the area, Speaks hopes this project will build a better relationship between Henderson and the University; and help other small river towns realize their potential. After Henderson, students plan on taking The River Cities project to Owensboro and Paducah. |
