breaking news
A Kentucky mom says shes on her way to jail - for homeschooling her kids.
But the Hancock County School Board says she didnt follow the rules.
Sharon Cruse says she decided to home school her three kids because multiple absences were keeping them from public school. Although she was homeschooling her children she also continued to work a full-time job, and says she would give her kids assignments to do during the day while she was at work.
The school board says the state has strict rules regarding homeschooling and Assistant Superintendent Mike Fallin says Cruse violated some of those rules. He says, "If you dont meet those requirements for your kids the school district will be filing charges against you for educational neglect."
Fallin says the number of hours of schooling the children received was in question and he also says Cruse never notified the school district that she planned to home school.
Cruse says she was taken to court over the matter and was charged with educational neglect of her children.
She says she faces 90 days in jail.
Cruse tells FOX 7 she is no longer home schooling any of her kids. She says one of her children has moved out of state and is no longer enrolled in school. The other two are back at school in Hancock County.
