Governor Steve Beshear is fresh off a legislative victory in which the Kentucky General Assembly adopted pension reform for state employees. The Governor says what is called House Bill 1 could solve Kentuckys biggest financial problem. Beshear signed the bill on Friday after he called for a special session last week. He says the new pension plan will assure government workers the retirement they deserve. Although Beshear says the week-long special session was the fastest a bill can be passed constitutionally, the session still cost thousands of taxpayer dollars. Beshear announced that passing this bill will mean $700,000 local dollars will be freed up to improve things like public schools and roads.
