A group called CAJE - Congregations Acting for Justice and Empowerment is asking the Mayor Weinzapfel to help the citys working poor. The group sat down with the Mayor Thursday night. CAJE asked the mayor to find a funding source for the Evansville Housing Trust Fund. The fund was established in 2002 and funded only one time. It has sat unused ever since. CAJE wants the fund to be re-established, to help low-income families find affordable housing in Evansville. CAJE says there are more than 15,000 low-income families in the city. CAJE co-chair Reverend Joe Easley says, "Can you imagine if you have a very low income and youre spending half of it for housing? Theres not much left for anything else." Coming out of Thursdays meeting - no definite funding sources were determined for the Evansville Housing Trust, but Mayor Weinzapfel plans to set up a task force. The task force is supposed to bring back a recommendation by October.
