US & World Summary: Three Shot, One Dead Near California College (Fresno, CA) -- Fresno, California police are investigating a shooting last night near the Cal State University Fresno campus. According to police, a student shot and killed one man and injured two others. Police say the person who was killed wasnt a student. The Fresno police department are talking with the suspect, whom theyve identified as Jonquel Brooks. The shooting happened in an apartment complex near the university and all the units in the complex have been evacuated while the investigation continues. --- Terrorist Suspects Arrested In Plot To Kill Soldiers (Fort Dix, NJ) -- Six suspected Islamic radicals are under arrest in a plot to kill U.S. Army soldiers. New Jersey authorities say the terror cell planned to attack Fort Dix with automatic weapons and kill as many soldiers as possible. Four of the suspects were born in Yugoslavia, one in Jordan and one in Turkey, according to a spokesman for the U.S. Attorneys office in Newark, New Jersey. The arrests were made last night by FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. The suspects are scheduled to be arraigned on terrorism charges later today. --- Midwest Hit By Heavy Rain, Severe Flooding, FEMA To Help Federal authorities are setting up camp in parts of the Midwest to help with cleanup efforts from severe flooding. Up to seven inches of rain in just two days across parts of Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma, causing at least one community to order an evacuation. FEMA is setting up trailers to serve as temporarily houses for families who lost everything. The agency is also helping with evacuation assistance and sandbagging. --- LSU Student Accused Of Hillary Clinton Threats Is Released (Baton Rouge, LA) -- A Louisiana State University student accused of threatening to kill Hillary Clinton is out of jail. The 19-year-old student was released to the custody of his parents, after being arrested last Thursday. Police were told by another student that Richard Ryan Wargo had made the threat on two occasions. The classmate contacted authorities after learning Clinton would be in Baton Rouge over the weekend for the National Conference of Black Mayors convention. Under terms of his release, Wargo must undergo a mental health evaluation. --- Alleged Terror Suspects Trial Begins Today (Miami, FL) -- The Jose Padilla domestic terrorism case gets underway today in Miami with jury selection. Padilla and two other men are accused of giving material support to al-Qaeda and planning to murder, kidnap and maim American citizens. Among other things, jurors and members of the public will get to see whats purported to be the former Chicago gang members application to join al-Qaeda. The indictment doesnt accuse any of the three men of committing any terror acts, just conspiracy to commit those acts. --- Man Jumps To Death From Las Vegas Stratosphere Tower (Las Vegas, NV) -- Police are investigating the suicide of a man who jumped Sunday from a Las Vegas landmark. The unidentified man jumped from the observation area of the Stratosphere Tower hotel and casino. The nearly 12-hundred-foot tower is the tallest freestanding observation tower in the U.S., and the tallest building west of the Mississippi. Police say the man fell through a roof just south of the tower before landing. --- Today Marks National Teacher Day By NEA, PTA Today is the designated day to say "thank you" to teachers. Its National Teacher Day, a project sponsored by the National Education Association. According to Reg Weaver, Association President, the organization has teamed up with the PTA to created the nations largest teacher thank you card. Weaver says the card can be accessed on the NEAs website as well as by going to www.teacherthankyoucard.org.
