Plans for the Owensboro riverfront are moving right along.
The city is still waiting for the Army Corps of Engineers to ok the plans for building the river wall, but theyve opened the bidding on the project.
The river wall is the first step in the plan to develop and expand the land thats now Smothers Park.
The city had already planned to call for bids on the 8th.
Owensboro will accept bids until August 27th assuming the Army Corps oks the plans for the wall.
After that, the party that bids highest on the project can bring in their own engineers to look at the property.
When all is said and done, Owensboros riverfront will include things like a small waterfall and a river overlook.
But with todays economy, City Operations Manager Tony Cecil says the sooner the better.
Another motivation to get the project moving is making the riverfront available for next summers big attractions like the International Bar-B-Que Festival.
