Young cyclists in evansville are going to need an extra piece of equipment if the city has its way. Warm weather and high gas prices make for a great time to get on a bike at get outside. But anyone under the age of 16 will have to make sure they have one of these to go along with their bike. City council is looking at passing an ordinance requiring any kid 16 and younger to wear a helmet. They want to pass this ordinance because the number one injury in cycling is head injuries and helments are the number one prevention for that. The City council will hear the second and third readings on this propsed amendment June fourth. If passed guardians will have to pay a 25 dollar fee the first time and 50 dollars for every other time their kid is found not wearing a helmet while riding their bike.
