breaking news
Evansville Police arrived at 2021 East Vogel Road late Sunday night looking for two men. When the raid was over, they had a mother in custody, and three children were put in protective care.
When officers searched the home on Evansvilles east side, they reportedly found pipes used to smoke marijuana and meth, pornographic movies on a table in plain view of the children, baggies of marijuana and meth, and several piles of dog waste.
In one room, they reported finding childrens clothing covered with feces.
Charity Newbold was summoned to the residence from her job and arrested on Neglect and Drug Possession charges.
Police say the odor of dog waste was so powerful that one officer "nearly vomited from the smell inside the home."
Child Protective Services took custody of the three children.
Neighbors say they arent surprised by the arrest. "Its bad. This is just a bad situation," said one man who lives nearby but did not want to be identified. He said part of the problem is that the residence is a rental home, and the landlord does not require his tenants to keep the house clean. Some neighbors are trying to reach the home owner, and plan to ask him to take action against the current tenants to preserve the neighborhood.
A woman identifying herself as Charity Newbolds mother said the kids would be back in family custody soon, and that shes had her share of problems with other families on the block.
