If youve driven through the construction zone on the twin bridges lately... you may have come up with some creative things to shout at the structure.
But you might not have wished it... A Happy Birthday!
July 4th marks the 75th anniversary of the opening of the north bound span. It was an event so momentous that 50-thousand vehicles tried to cross on that day. The bridge is credited for linking the economy and culture of southern Indiana and Western Kentucky.
It was built at a cost of 2-point-four million dollars back in 1932, and was designed as a toll road to help pay for it.
Those tolls were removed in 1941.
The second bridge was built in 1966, and cost nearly double the price of the first span.
