Fire departments looking for volunteers are coming up short.
The amount of people willing to volunteer as firefighters is on a steady decline.
National and state statistics show that theres been more than a ten percent decrease in the last ten years.
Steve Anderson volunteers for Perry Township Volunteer Fire department and believes there are many reasons for the decline.
He says multiple family members working to make ends meet, more training requirements, and a general lack of interest in volunteering all play a role.
But he adds that volunteer fire departments are important because they save tax payers money and provide a great service to the community.
