A vehicle ran off the Natcher-Green River Parkway earlier this morning and struck an employee of a contract mowing firm
that was working in the area. Initial reports indicate it is in Daviess County in the northbound lanes at the 69 mile marker. A Daviess County Deputy confirms the worker was killed in the accident. Nationally, there were 1,074 people killed in highway work zones in our country last year. There have been approximately 20 fatalities in Kentucky work zones in the past two years, three of which were highway construction workers. Statistics show more than 40,000 people are injured each year in work zone crashes; 85% of those killed in work zones are motorists, not workers.
