Oakland City Lake Going "Dry"

Oakland Citys public swimming lake, New Lake, will soon be an alcohol free beach.
The move comes after two recent arrests at the Gibson County lake for public intoxication. The Oakland City city council voted to ban alcohol at the beach and volleyball court, but still permit it in the camping area. Council members voted to forgo a second reading on the measure, effectively putting the measure into effect immediately.
Several signs will be posted at the lake to inform patrons of the change in rules.
New Lake serves as the water source for Oakland City, even thought it lies outside of city limits. That is why the city can make and enforce rules there.
