Trooper hurt in highway crash
(Indianapolis) A state trooper was among four injured this morning when a semi sideswiped a car pulled over for a traffic violation. It happened about 9:30 a.m. when an International box truck east on I-465 near Indianapolis sheered a vehicle that had been stopped by state police. A trooper - 40-year-old Henry Kalina - was reportedly injured when the impact forced the parked car into him as he was standing on the passenger side and sent him down an embankment. He was transported to an Indianapolis hospital, where he was listed in stable but serious condition. The driver of the car - 28-year-old Katrina Bowen-Davis of Carmel - was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. Another woman and a child were also injured and being treated at a hospital. There names are being withheld at this time. The driver of the truck - 63-year-old Andrew Yoder of Geneva - was cited for failing to yield to a stationary emergency vehicle and for unsafe lane movement. It is the second such incident involving a state trooper in less than a day. Late Monday afternoon, a troopers cruiser was struck by a semi tractor trailer during a traffic stop in Daviess County.
