By: Web Producer
Updated: August 10, 2007
FRIDAY REPORT The water main break that shut down traffic on green street Friday has been repaired. Both southbound lanes reopened Friday morning and one northbound laned was cleared this afternoon. The northbound side of Green street will be restricted to one lane thorughout the weekend. The city of Henderson will have crews back to finish the road repairs on Monday. The source of the problem was a leak in a pipe under Green and Vine streets.. All Henderson county schools were closed Friday. And residents of Henderson are asked to boil and conserve water until further notice. THURSDAY REPORT A large water main break Thursday in Henderson is leaving people with little to no water. The headache is being caused by a break in a 20 inch water line on Green Street in Henderson. Water spilled out at a rate of thousands of gallons per minute flooding the road and forcing motorists to turn elsewhere. City officials say old age is the likely cause of the break. While some were left without water, and schools were forced to send kids home early, others just experienced low water pressure. Crews estimate it will take about 12 hours to get repairs made. It has been three years since the city has experienced a break to this magnitude. Residents are urged to be patient and boil any water they may have before use. If you normally travel Green Street you will be detoured via South Main Street. Also, Gibbs Die Casting has closed all casting divisions for second and third shifts this Thursday.
