breaking news
Evansville Firefighters arrived on the scene of Yurks and Associates on N. Fulton Avenue just after 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
Witnesses called in the fire after seeing heaving clouds of smoke coming from the building.
District Fire Chief Keith Jarboe says the company makes wooden pallets and stacks of them were blocking the doors.
Most of the damages took place on the South side of the building.
This caused a part of the roof to collapse and some damage to the machines.
But it was only an hour after getting on the scene that firefighters completed extinguished the blaze.
12 workers were in the building earlier in the evening and firefighters are looking into whether they may have contributed to the fire. The investigation into the cause though is still ongoing. Firefighters hope to have something more by early next week. Yurks and Associates is located inside the old LB Jones furniture building. Now fire officials are of course looking into whether something did happen while workers were inside that building earlier today. The companys owner Steve Yurks is currently out of town and could not be reached for comment.
