Indiana residents have a new weapon in the fight against identity theft.
The state's credit freeze law takes effect Saturday. It is aimed at putting would-be identity thieves on ice.
Attorney General Steve Carter is spreading the word about the new law.
He unveiled the bill today in Evansville
It lets Hoosiers block unauthorized credit checks.
That should keep i-d thieves from getting fraudulent loans and credit card applications approved.
Once you freeze your credit, you'll get a special pin number to use to unfreeze it if you'd like to apply for a loan or credit card.
