New recruits take to the water to learn skills of survival. Saturday close to 50 Army National Guard soldiers participated in scenarios that mimic real-life water disasters. The soldiers demonstrated skills needed to survive a capsized boat and the strength needed to pull equipment through the water. Sargent first class Larry Lightburne says he hopes this exercise builds confidence. He says he wants them to understand that its not that hard to get through military training. Soldiers were timed during the exercises and received prizes for completing them in record time.
