From Indiana State police: Enforcement Project Nets Three Unsafe Commercial Motor Vehicles On Wednesday, September 12, Indiana State Police participated in a statewide enforcement project to improve the safety of commercial vehicle traffic on Indiana roadways. Troopers and motor carrier inspectors at the Evansville District concentrated their efforts on I-64 from 6 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Troopers observed moving violations that included speeding, following too closely and unsafe lane movements. Motor carrier inspectors conducted roadside inspections to ensure commercial motor vehicles were safe and were operating properly under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. During the project, 22 commercial motor vehicles were inspected and 45 violations were detected. Motor carrier inspectors also placed two unsafe drivers and three unsafe vehicles out of service. “By conducting these statewide enforcement projects, Indiana State Police hope to reduce the number of highway crashes caused by mechanical defects on commercial vehicles and driver errors due to fatigue and other human factors. It is the goal of the Indiana State Police to make our roadways as safe as possible for all motorists,” said Major Tom Melville, Commander of the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division. Similar projects will be conducted on a monthly basis throughout the Evansville District, which covers Knox, Pike, Gibson, Posey, Vanderburgh and Warrick Counties.
