Work to Begin on Cass Storm Water Project

Updated: September 17, 2007
From: Evansville Mayors Office: 3rd Storm Water Project Moving into Next Phase (EVANSVILLE, IN) Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel announces today that an engineering contract, contingent upon approval of the Water and Sewer Utility Board, will be granted so preliminary design work can begin on the Cass Avenue storm water project. This is the second largest of the four projects recommended by the Evansville Storm Water Task Force. When completed, the storm water improvements will affect more than 1,300 people and cover approximately 360 acres on Evansvilles southeast side. The Cass Avenue project is located south of Covert Avenue and is centered along Boeke Road. It is most similar to the project almost completed in the Lorraine Park area, which will reduce flooding there. The proposed improvements will separate the storm water from the sanitary sewer/combination sewer system located along Covert Avenue. The sanitary sewer will be directed to a lift station, which will prevent sewer backups into the neighborhood. The storm water will be directed to a new trunk line, which will carry it to the existing Levee Authority detention basin located on Fickas Road. I am pleased to see how quickly we are moving forward with the recommendations of the Storm Water Task Force,” said Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel. The sooner these storm water projects are designed, the sooner we can start the actual physical work to relieve flooding problems on the Citys southeast side. This will be the third of four projects recommended by the Storm Water Task Force to move into the design phase. The first was the 65-acre Jeanette Cass project. The second was the Southeast Brookside and Covert Avenue project, which is the largest of the four. A contract is pending with an engineering firm for preliminary design work on the fourth project in Eastview Terrace.
