Winter Heating Costs Could Rise More Than Ten-Percent
(Washington, DC) -- Heating oil bills could jump to record levels this winter.
Thats according to a new report quoted by "USA Today." The National Energy Assistance Directors Association says the average U.S. household will pay just under one-thousand-dollars this winter in heating costs, which is about 94-dollars more than last year.
The news is even worse for users of home heating oil.
Theyre expected to shell out more than 18-hundred dollars on average this winter.
That represents a whopping 28-percent increase over last winter and double the cost of just four years ago.
The NEADA says about eight-percent of U.S. homes use heating oil, most of them in the Northeast.
The average price of heating oil is expected to top three-dollars a gallon, up from 2-48 last winter.
In addition, natural gas customers are expected to see their bill rise by nearly five-dollars this winter to an average of 881-dollars.
More than half the homes in the U.S. are heated with natural gas.
Electricity customers are expected to see a seven-percent increase in their heating bill to a record average of 883-dollars.
