Most trick or treaters may be safe in bed by now - but police and sheriffs deputies are still keeping an eye out for Halloween mischief.
The Vanderburgh County Sheriffs department put extra patrols on the street tonight.
From 3 until about 9 tonight the Sheriffs department stepped up patrols.
Those are the times when hundreds of kids are collecting candy in the county streets.
The deputies are right along side them - making sure everyone had fun without incident.
Its not typical to have sheriffs deputies driving through subdivision, but on a night when kids are dressed in their best costumes, the Vanderburgh County Sheriffs Department is out in full force.
"We have 6 units out we thought we were going to have 4 but we went ahead and added a little more."
Theyre all over the county on the north south east and west sides
"Areas we have a little more growth we have a couple more cars."
Growth is a main reason they need to put more men and women on the streets.
In the past 10 or 12 years, more neighborhoods popped up, especially on the north side and theyre trying to keep up with the population.
"I think we owe it to the area to be out here on a day when we have a lot of kids running through the streets."
Thats their biggest concern patrolling the areas.
"What were looking for is drivers going too fast."
And making sure kids arent roaming around without a parent or darting in and out of heavy traffic.
Theyre hoping just their presence prevents any crimes or Halloween mischief.
"Surprisingly enough the crime on Hallowen isnt what we would think," which is good for the deputies patrolling and the kids trying to have some Halloween fun
Now that everyone got through the holiday without incident its time for parents to make sure they keep an eye on their kids candy.
Chief Wedding says its important for parents to look through the candy bag making sure their kids dont eat anything that may not look right.
