breaking news
A year ago today an elderly Henderson County couple was trapped in their home after it exploded.
They lost that house - but miraculously survived.
Theres not much about November 8, 2006 the Floyds remember.
In fact - theres not much the couple remembers about the months after a gas explosion caused their house to blow up.
But one year later - the little they do remember theyre trying to forget.
Granddaughters Hannah and Kendra Roll would spend all their time at grandma and grandpas house if they could.
But one year ago today Alva and Hubert Floyd didnt have a home.
"The house blew up," says Alva.
And almost took them with it
"God was with us or we wouldnt have been here no doubt in my mind," says Hubert
The couple was inside during the gas explosion.
"I watched the first cycle and it went through it and thats all I remember."
He also remembers who left the house just before the accident.
"I really thought about my two granddaughters."
Kendra and Hannah were visiting just hours before.
"I can remember when they were here I dont know what Id done if theyd been in the house and we lived through it."
Alva doesnt remember much either and doesnt want to.
"Its really hard to talk about."
Its a little easier for Hubert, but that doesnt take away the pain of November 8, 2006.
Hubert spent at least two months in the hospital, none of which he remembers.
"My hands are stiff. I can move them."
Today Alva is still making doctors visits for her heel.
"My heel was broke real bad they had to take the screws out cause it wouldnt heal up."
While the couple tried to heal their daughter helped get this new home, standing in the same spot as the other.
Hubert says its not like their old one and just like the couple the yard still shows signs of what happened.
But when its filled with love from their granddaughters all Alva and Hubert can do is thank God their alive."
This new home was finished in June.
Hubert says the most important part - its an all electric home.
