US & World Summary Lawmakers: Ban Immigrants From Secure Airport Areas (Chicago, IL) -- Only U.S. citizens should be allowed to hold jobs in secure areas of the nations airports. Thats the view of two Congressional members from Illinois. Republican Mark Kirk and Democrat Melissa Bean introduced the House proposal yesterday. Kirk says it comes after dozens of illegal immigrants were arrested for using phony ID badges to work at Chicagos OHare Airport. He says heightened fingerprint and picture technology are also important in the security process. Bean and Kirk say they also want to see stepped up security at OHare, including vehicle inspections at a back gate thats used by many workers. --- FBI Finds Blackwater Iraq Shootings Unjustified (Washington, DC) -- An FBI investigation into the shootings of 17 Iraqi civilians by Blackwater security guards found that at least 14 of those shootings werent justified. According to the "New York Times," the findings show that the companys employees violated deadly force rules that were in effect for security contractors in Iraq. Investigators say as many as five guards opened fire during the September 16th shooting incident that is still under review by the Justice Department. --- Death Toll From CA Wildfires Rises (San Diego, CA) -- The death toll from the recent wildfires in San Diego County has risen to ten. A Mexican national who was with a group of undocumented immigrants coming into the United States is the latest victim. He was severely burned near the town of Tecate and died at a San Diego hospital. Further north, the Los Angeles County District Attorneys office says it wont file charges against the minor accused of starting one of last months massive wildfires. The Buckweed Fire charred more than 30-thousand acres and destroyed several homes. --- Westboro Embarking On Legal Challenges (Baltimore, MD) -- Attorneys representing the Westboro Baptist Church are headed back to court over last months nearly eleven-million-dollar judgment against the fringe group. A jury sided with the father of a slain Marine, who claimed church members violated his privacy by staging a protest at his sons funeral. Lawyers for the controversial Kansas City church are asking the same federal judge to throw out, or lower the award. The church is also asking the Supreme Court to get involved on the grounds that the case violates its free speech rights. --- Report: Doctor Who Operated On Kanyes Mom Has Checkered Past The plastic surgeon who operated on rapper Kanye Wests mother just before she died has faced multiple malpractice suits in the past. Thats according to TMZ.com, which says Dr. Jan Adams has been sued by at least four women who complained that he botched their procedures or falsely represented himself. Adams has admitted to performing a breast reduction and tummy tuck on 58-year-old Donda West before she passed away on Saturday. The surgeon says Wests death couldnt have been foreseen and may have been caused by a heart attack or pulmonary embolism. --- Colleges May Be Required To Become Copyright Police (Washington, DC) -- Colleges may soon have to employ copyright police. Under a bill introduced in the House, universities will have to prove they have safeguards against computer piracy or risk losing their shares of 100-billion-dollars a year in federal student aid. According to CNET news.com, the schools would be required to prove they have plans to install deterrents. In a letter to Congress, some college presidents called the measure "punitive." --- Marbury Threatens To Dish Info About Isiah Thomas (Phoenix, AZ) -- Instead of battling opponents on the basketball court, New York Knicks point guard Stephon Marbury is fighting with head coach and team president Isiah Thomas. According to the "New York Daily News," Marbury has gone AWOL and returned to New York after being told he wouldnt start in a game against the Phoenix Suns. The angry guard was also a no-show at yesterdays team shoot around. Thomas says he hopes the matter will be resolved in the next couple of days.
