It appears the Tri-State may have a new world record holder. Bob OBrien, a teacher and cross country coach in Owensboro made the attempt at lifting the most weight in an hour doing squats. Could he do it? The current record is 36 thousand 700 pounds and it appears OBrien has blown that record away. But getting there was not easy. Bob OBrien knows about endurance. I just came in here started doing squats making sure I got low enough trying doing 155 160 for 15 or 20 minutes Hes not in this gym to lose weight. Hes here to break a world record. Im 40 years old and when youre 40 life can be boring and you need challenges Surrounded by friends and students Bob OBrien knows about support. Set by set he pushes forward trying to lift the most weight in an hour doing squats. Bob OBrien knows about failure. "I tried how many pull ups in an hour and I missed that one and I had some technical difficulties with how many pullups in one minute." With sweat dripping off every part of his body Bob OBrien knows about pain. "I feel weak and numb." With all that endurance, support, failure and pain. Bob OBrien now knows about victory. I feel good. Im tired but it was worth it Because the coach and teacher appears to have broken the world record Unofficially OBrien lifted 43 thousand ten pounds in an hour. He actually passed the world record with about 10 minutes left. This is his fourth attempt at a world record. He failed at those two records for pull ups in a minute and hour. OBrien says he is the world record holder for the most bench presses of his body weight in an hour, but if this becomes official it will be his first Guinness Book World Record.
