More Teachers Crossing the Line on Sexual Relationships with Students?

Updated: November 30, 2007
Are more teachers crossing the line in the classroom when it comes to sexual relationships with students? A Kentucky lawmaker thinks so and hes sponsoring a bill to outlaw affairs between students and teachers. The proposal was sparked by a Marshall County band teacher who allegedly had sex with a 16 year old student. That teacher is only facing a charge of unlawful transaction with a minor because 16 is the states age of consent. Indiana has a law banning sex between teachers and students under the age of 18. While Kentucky lawmakers work on crafting their bill, Indiana authorities say a Pike Central high school teacher will not face charges for sending questionable text messages to one of his students. Pike County Sheriff Todd Meadors confirmed his department investigated the teacher. The Pike County school board is handling the matter at its next meeting.
