The fight to decide who will provide fire protection for Knight Township is now over.
The meeting with the Townships advisory board and the Knight Township Volunteer Fire department lasted just over 10 minutes.
But when its when it was over a one-year $271,000 contract for the volunteer fire departments services was signed.
Knight Township Fire Chief Chris Wathen says it is good to keep the resources in the area and good for the community.
He says months and months of disagreements over the fire departments contract never should have gotten to this point .
But Wathen says he now wants some of the wounds to heal so everyone can move forward.
Township trustee Linda Durham says thats exactly what she wanted all along.
But she says the fire departments request for a second year for more than $400,000 almost made it impossible.
She says they will begin negotiations as soon as possible for the next year so that that we wont run into this problem again.
Chuck Dietrick, Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Knight Township Volunteer Fire Department, says he looks forward to starting negotiations for that contract as early as February.
