Accused of murder, convicted of manslaughter. A Vanderburgh County jury found 28-year old Jason Wells guilty of a lesser charge. He was on trial for the stabbing death of 62-year old John Carter. That happened at the Econo lodge on Fares Avenue in October of 2006. Wells told police the two men were lovers and they got in a fight over sex and work. Motel managers say carter was employed as a maintenance man at the Econo Lodge. Manslaughter is a Class C felony so Wells could get two to eight years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for late January.
