Its been almost a year since Evansville and Vanderburgh county began smoking bans in restaurants and bars...... and the verdict from some businesses is not good. Under the ban, smoking is not allowed in facilities open to people under the age of 18...unless theres a separate room. So while bars open to those 21 years old and older, like Smittys say they have not be affected. Family bars and restaurants like West Franklin Streets Gerst Haus say they have. Bar Manager, Beth Reisinger says bar business is down by 25 percent. Beginning January 2, 2009 the smoking ban will go into effect for all restaurants and bars in Vanderburgh county.
