Evansville Leaders Take Office

Evansville politicians say they are ready to start moving the city forward after taking their oaths of office. Nine city council members, the city clerk and the mayor were all sworn in during a ceremony at the Victory Theater on Tuesday. Democrats hold an 8 to 1 majority on the city council, but lone Republican Jeff Kniese is pledging to keep an eye on spending. Second term Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel says he plans to push ahead the agenda he laid out in his first term.
