Law enforcement had their hands full when an Evansville man arrested for rape tried to get away from police.
John Gates was on parole for a previous rape conviction.
He was arrested again Wednesday for allegedly raping his ex-girlfriend in her apartment.
She filed a report last week after he reportedly tried to run her over with his car.
Yesterday, he took her to the grocery store and took her kids to school.
They returned to her apartment and that's when she says he attacked her.
Officers say gates tried to run from them while he was being taken from the police department to jail.
