Recycling is one good way to be more green. But if youre thinking plastic, aluminum, or glass - think again. We know something everybody has around the house that youd never guess could be recycled.
Every year, Americans throw out millions of pairs of athletic shoes. They clog up the dumps, but its a waste because the materials can be reused.
Nike is accepting worn out shoes. They process them, recycle the materials, and reuse them to build new playgrounds and basketball courts.
Its a campaign were adopting at Fox 7 for the new year in our "Tri-State Green" iniative. With your help, we hope to collect 20,000 pairs of old athletic shoes.
We are starting with one Newburgh Elementary School, Sharon Elementary, and hope others will join in our campaign.
