According to the FBI violent crime is down for the first time in two years.
And Evansville police say its certainly the case here, too.
Murder, rape and robbery dropped in 2007 from the previous year.
But the numbers only account for half the year.
Evansville actually had four murders in 2006, one more than the reported three homicides.
Police say there are a lot of reasons for the decline - specialized law enforcement programs, increased patrols, and working with residents.
While they are happy with the numbers, they arent too surprised.
Areas that were up in crime included burglary, arson, and auto theft.
