Both were shot to death, along with another mother and son, at a home on Hovey Street. The funeral was at noon. Gina Hunt and one-year-old Jordan were laid to rest on Saturday. Four men are in custody in connection to the shootings. At least one of them will be in court today. --- Workers Laid Off At Dunn Center (Richmond) -- The Richmond-based Dunn Center Mental Health, Incorporated has laid off 29 employees. CEO Kay Whittington terms the move a "temporary reduction in force." A state budget forecast earlier this month is blamed for the lay offs. Governor Mitch Daniels warned that there could be cuts to some entitlement programs, according to Whittington. The Dunn Center is a Medicaid provider. Some of the affected employees are eligible for job transfers. --- Martin Luther Kings Dream Remembered During Programs In Indianapolis (Indianapolis) -- Civic leaders and citizens across Indiana marked the Martin Luther King holiday with ceremonial marches and programs. Hundreds of people took part in prayer, and listened to music and speeches at the Madame Walker Theatre. The keynote addresses praised the work of King and his contemporaries. But State Representative Carolene Mays says there are still goals to reach. A short march from the Indianapolis Urban League to the theatre preceded the program. Indianapolis City-County Councillor Andre Carson said that Kings example as a "servant-leader" is the best model for leadership. Carson added that keeping Kings dream alive requires action. Governor Mitch Daniels was part of a celebration and breakfast at Ben Davis High School on Monday morning. The Indiana History Center is hosting an exhibit on Martin Luther King and Indianas contribution to civil rights. "Sharing the Dream" runs through March at the center. --- Here Are Mondays Winning Numbers From The Hoosier Lottery Daily Three-Midday: 0-7-8; Daily Three-Evening: 9-0-9; Daily Four-Midday: 1-9-7-6; Daily Four-Evening: 9-3-0-3; Lucky Five-Midday: 5-6-14-17-20 Lucky Five-Evening: 1-25-28-30-36. Road crews are out treating roads and law enforcement agencies are dealing with a number of accidents. (Frankfort, KY) -- Centre College President John Roush says a bill that would permit people to bring guns onto campus is "a really bad idea." Representative Bob Damron is sponsoring a bill that would allow people to bring guns to campus in their vehicles and remove them if they feel the need to defend themselves. University of Kentucky President Lee Todd says UK bans firearms and thats "the way we would like to keep it." Representative Damron says his intent is that responsible gun owners be able to keep their weapons in their vehicles when they drive to school or work. (Frankfort, KY) -- The General Assembly is back at work today after a week off and the Martin Luther King holiday. The House task force on expanded gaming will hold several meetings this week, beginning with one today. (Richmond, KY) -- Eastern Kentucky University is expected to name Dean Hood as the new head football coach of the Colonels. Hood is currently defensive coordinator at Wake Forest, but once worked as an assistant to Roy Kidd at EKU. The announcement expected at an afternoon news conference in Richmond. (Sandy Hook, KY) -- Earlier this month two-men were found shot to death, three-days apart in Elliott County. Robert Boggs and Christopher Leadinghams families are now offering a reward. Theyre offering 25-hundred for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the killers. The Kentucky State Police is handling the investigations. (Slade, KY) -- Kentucky State Police say the death of a Mount Sterling man is a clear case of murder. The body of 22-year-old Michael Flora was discovered over the weekend along Kentucky-15 near Slade. Investigators say he had been shot to death, results of an autopsy conducted yesterday have not been released. (Maysville, KY) -- Three Kentucky Appeals court judges will be in Maysville today, as the Court of Appeals hears four-cases. The proceedings will review decisions and procedures in the cases, not verdicts. The judges often travel and hold court outside of Frankfort. Tthis is the first time local attorneys remember the court being in Maysville. Illinois Summary: --- Snow Falls On Chicago (Chicago) -- Winter temperatures and falling snow caused several car accidents, broken water pipes, and at least one power outage overnight. Side streets and even some major roads will be wet or snow-covered for the morning rush. Weather contributed to some serious overnight car accidents, including a jackknifed semi that blocked traffic on the Tri-State Tollway and a three-car accident on Randall Road in Batavia that killed at least one-person. Other accidents included cars skidding off the roadways into ditches or walls. Early this morning, a large portion of the Oakbrook and Elmhurst area was without power. The outage also affected the Tri-State and Reagan Tollroads. Power has been restored. About five-inches of accumulated snow is expected near the Wisconsin border, with the rest of the area getting no more than three-inches. --- Broken Pipe Causes Heavy North Side Flooding (Chicago) -- Water department employees are working to re-open several Chicago streets closed overnight by a major North Side pipe break. The cast-iron pipe ruptured at about 12:30 this morning near the intersection of Montrose Avenue and Wolcott Street. It caused heavy flooding, partially burying some cars. Officials have cleared much of the water, but several-feet is still standing beneath viaducts in the area. CTA Brown Line trains were affected earlier this morning. The Montrose station is now open again, but can only be accessed from the East side. Authorities arent saying what caused the pipe to break. --- Chlorine Problems Sicken 22 At Elmhurst Water Park (Elmhurst) -- Chlorine problems at an Elmhurst water park sent 22-people to hospitals yesterday. Many of those injured at the Mayan Adventure Indoor Waterpark were children. Authorities blame either an overtreated pool or a chlorine leak for the injuries. Most victims suffered chemical burns around their eyes and mouths, though some children did vomit or faint. The park is currently closed, but the hotel its connected to is still open. --- Former Cook County Board Presidents Wake Today (Chicago) -- A week of mourning for former Chicago political leaders begins today. The wake for former Cook County Board President John Stroger begins at noon at St. Columbanus Catholic Church on East 71st Street. It runs until 8 p.m. Tomorrow, a viewing and a funeral will take place at St. Felicitas Catholic Church on East 84th Street. Stroger will be laid to rest at St. Marys Cemetery in Evergreen Park. A viewing for former Chicago Mayor Eugene Sawyer is scheduled for Friday from 3 to 9 p.m. at Vernon Park Church of God on Stony Island Avenue. His wake and funeral will take place there Saturday. Sawyer will be buried in Oak Woods Cemetery on East 67th Street. Stroger died last Friday of complications from a stroke he suffered two-years ago. Sawyer passed away Saturday. --- Police Beating Aftermath Has States Attorney Candidates At Odds (Chicago) -- Two Democratic Cook County States Attorney candidates are pointing fingers at each other over the decision to drop felony charges against a Chicago cop caught beating a man on tape. In the 2005 attack, officer William Cozzi handcuffed and shackled the drunk man to a wheelchair at Norwegian American Hospital and beat him about ten-times. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery and was given 18-months probation. Chief Deputy States Attorney Anita Alvarez tells the "Chicago Sun-Times" she never supported the decision to let Cozzi plead, and blames First Assistant States Attorney Robert Milan for allowing the lesser charge. Milan says thats just sour grapes, and that in any case the plea was appropriate. But Milan says Cozzi should have been fired. Instead, the police board gave him a two-year unpaid suspension thats scheduled to expire in April. New police commissioner Jody Weis says hell review the matter when he takes office in February. --- Ladies Apparently Love Drew Peterson (Bolingbrook) -- Drew Peterson is a chick magnet. The former Bolingbrook police officer suspected in his wifes disappearance tells the "Joliet Herald-News" he cant leave the house without women approaching him. Peterson showed the paper a note left in his mailbox from a woman who said she believed him and that he should call her, but she did not leave a phone number. Peterson says he doesnt particularly want the attention. His fourth wife Stacy hasnt been seen since October 28th, and State Police say they believe he is involved with her disappearance. Officials have also re-opened their investigation into the drowning death of Petersons third wife, which was originally ruled an accident. --- Martin Luther King Day Ceremonies Threatened At Suburban College (Naperville) -- Police are searching for whomever wrote a note threatening Martin Luther King Jr. Day ceremonies at one suburban college. Four-copies of the single-page note were found outside the North Central College administration building Monday morning. The school held a prayer breakfast in that building as planned, and classes went on as scheduled. But college security and Naperville police increased their presence on campus, and plan to keep heightened patrols through the week. --- Couple Allegedly Sexually Abused Eight-Year-Old Relative (Waukegan) -- A Wauconda Township couple stands accused of sexually assaulting an eight-year-old relative. Lake County Under Sheriff Charles Fagan says 26-year-old Tiffany Horak and her 25-year-old husband Carl were charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child after the alleged victim spoke with another family member. Police believe the abuse began last fall. The most recent incident happened over the weekend. Although there were two other children who had contact with the Horaks, investigators believe the eight-year-old was the only victim of sexual abuse. Bonds are set at half-a-million-dollars each. --- Two Caught Trying To Steal Dog (Chicago) -- Chicago police say they caught two-men trying to dognap a pooch from a North Side animal hospital overnight. A spokesperson says the break-in happened around midnight at the Gold Coast Animal Hospital at 225 West Division Street. Several animals apparently escaped during the robbery, but they were all rounded up shortly after. The two-men have not yet been charged. --- Fake Night Deposit Box At Aurora Bank Fools Depositors (Aurora) -- A crafty Aurora thief tried to steal deposits from bank customers before the paperwork even made it through the doors. Police say the crook put "Out of Order" signs over two night deposit boxes at Chase Banks Westfield Fox Valley Shopping Center branch. The criminal then put up a fake deposit box, which apparently looked real enough to some who dropped checks and cash in the box. One alert customer decided things werent right and called police, who are hoping video from a security camera helps them catch the criminal.
