Indiana Summary: New I-65 Exit Being Pushed By Greenwood Leaders (Greenwood) -- Leaders in Greenwood are pushing to get a new exit along Interstate 65. The proposed interchange would be about halfway between Main Street and Whiteland exits at Worthsville Road, also known as County Road-750 North. The cost of the project is estimated at 31-million-dollars, but Greenwood officials say this wouldnt come from extra taxes. Greenwood Mayor Charles Henderson says a new exit would help to relieve traffic backups at the Main Street exit. --- RCA Dome Demolition To Cost Three-Point-Five-Million-Dollars (Indianapolis) -- Under a three-point-five-million-dollars contract, the demolition of the RCA Dome will begin this Spring. The demolition will take around six-months to complete, and Indiana Stadium and Convention Building Authority Executive Director Fred Klipsch said some fixtures from the RCA Dome could be sold as souvenirs. The new Lucas Oil Stadium is scheduled to be complete by August 15th, about a week before the Indianapolis Colts are scheduled to play a preseason game there. --- Man Accused Of Exposing Himself At Fishers Tanning Salon (Fishers) -- Investigators have released several surveillance photos of a man who is accused of exposing himself at a Fishers tanning salon. The incident took place at That Tanning Place near 141st Street and State Road-37, where authorities say the man showed up on January 9th, just before closing, and exposed himself to a female employee at the back of the store. He left through a back door, while the employee called police. Kentucky Summary: (Frankfort, KY) -- Governor Steve Beshear says his budget deals with "cold, harsh reality," citing anticipated revenue shortfalls in both years of the next biennium. The governor says "there is no new money, there is less." He outlined in broad strokes a budget. The governor says we need a "major new source of revenue." Then saying raising taxes is a last resort urged lawmakers to pass an amendment to permit casinos in Kentucky and put it before voters in November. The governor says limited but expanded gaming will result in "hundreds of millions of dollars in next tax revenue every year." (Louisville, KY) -- Yesterday marked the one-year anniversary of Barbaros death and Churchill Downs was chosen to be the place where the 2006 Derby winners remains will be buried. Barbaros owners, Roy and Gretchen Jackson made the announcement at Churchill yesterday morning. The owners say they want the horses ashes to be in a place where the public can come by and pay their respects. Barbaros remains will join four other Kentucky Derby winners. (Louisville, KY) -- Two-men were arrested Monday and are accused of traveling from California to Louisville in order to meet a 13-year-old girl for sex. Alexander Parker of Marysville, California is charged with one county of unlawful use of an electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual or prohibited acts. Deventa Chiles, also of Marysville, California, is charged with facilitation to unlawful use of a electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual or other prohibited acts. (Shepherdsville, KY) -- Charges were dismissed against a Bullitt County youth pastor yesterday. Judge Rebecca Ward dismissed the charges against Clayton Pruett during the hearing after an investigator failed to show up. Pruett was arrested in December and is accused of having sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Pruett had been placed on paid voluntary administrative leave by the church until the case was resolved. Pruett has sued the accusers mother accusing her of slander, libel and defamation of character. (Louisville, KY) -- Fire investigators are looking into what may have caused a Louisville warehouse fire. Officials say the incident took place over the weekend in the Shelby Park neighborhood. Investigators have not identified the cause of that fire yet but say several oil-burning heaters were found near a trailer inside the warehouse. Sixty-five-year-old Bill Christie died as a result of that fire. Officials say they are focusing on the trailer inside the warehouse, where Christie lived. (Frankfort, KY) -- Second District Congressman Ron Lewis has decided not to run for re-election. Lewis chief of staff Daniel London and State Senator Brett Guthrie have entered the Republican race. Davies County judge executive Reid Haire and David Boswell of Owensboro are competing for the Democratic nomination. (Louisville, KY) -- Metro government officials say they have started putting parking boots on drivers cars who have unpaid parking tickets. Parking Authority of River City employees say they used six-boots earlier this week. Officials say any motorist who has three or more unpaid parking tickets are eligible for the boot. PARC stopped using the device last April after eleven-people filed a lawsuit. A judge rejected the claim and sent the case to state court, which made way for the return of the device. (Frankfort, KY) -- Governor Steve Beshear reappointed members of the Judicial Retirement and Removal Commission yesterday. Diane Logsdon and Joyce King Jennings will serve for terms expiring in January of 2012. Logsdon is a hospital administrator at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. She is also a licensed Registered Nurse and is certified in physician practice management. Jennings is a event planner with JKJ, Incorporated in Louisville. Illinois Summary: --- Winter Weather Advisories Issued (Romeoville) -- Frigid temperatures and high winds are expected this morning, which could make for a dicey commute. The National Weather Service has issued a Blowing Snow Advisory for the counties of Cook, DuPage, Kane, McHenry and Lake in Illinois until noon today. A Wind Chill Warning also remains in effect for those same counties until noon today. A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect until noon for Will County in Illinois, as well as Lake, Porter, Jasper and Newton counties in Indiana. Forecasters say the accumulating snow has ended, but strong winds and very cold temperatures could result in wind chills as low as 35-degrees below zero overnight. Residents who must be outdoors for even a short period of time should take the proper precautions. --- Toddlers Father May Have Shot Him, Mother In Gary Carjacking (Gary, IN) -- The "person of interest" police are questioning about the shooting death of a toddler during a Gary, Indiana carjacking is apparently that childs father. The "Gary Post-Tribune" reports authorities are talking with 34-year-old Terry Bethel about the Monday night killing of 13-month-old Josiah Shaw and the shooting of the childs mother, 29-year-old Kwana 1/81/8kuh-WAHN-uh3/83/8 Shaw. He was arrested on a warrant for unrelated traffic charges shortly before midnight on Monday. Authorities say Kwana Shaw was putting her son in the back seat of her SUV when a gunman shot her and drove off with the vehicle. It was later found abandoned a short distance away with the child inside. Kwana Shaw remains hospitalized and unable to talk with police following surgeries. Bethel has not been charged in the case. --- Rezko To Remain Jailed (Chicago) -- Indicted political fundraiser Tony Rezko will stay in jail. A federal judge denied the businessman bond yesterday, a day after revoking it when new information about Rezkos finances came to light. He received a three-and-a-half-million-dollar loan from contacts in Lebanon last April, but did not disclose that information. The judge ruled that money made Rezko a flight risk. Rezkos lawyer says he cant prepare a good defense with his client in jail. Meanwhile, the federal governments top witness is being forced to undergo drug testing. Rezkos legal team claims Stuart Levine has a long drug history that could affect his memory. His lawyer denies Levine has a drug problem. A judge yesterday ordered both the drug testing and any necessary treatment. Rezko is accused of using two state boards to extort kickbacks. --- Obama Campaign: All Rezko Funds Given To Charity (Chicago) -- Barack Obamas presidential campaign says its turned all donations received from anyone connected to indicted fundraiser Tony Rezko over to charity. The Illinois Senators campaign said yesterday it was giving more than 70-thousand-dollars away. That includes money from a June of 2003 fundraiser at Rezkos Wilmette home. The Obama camp has now given more than 157-thousand-dollars connected to Rezko to charity. Rezkos allegedly illegal fundraising activities have been connected mostly to Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, though Obama and several other politicians have also taken money from the native Syrian and his associates. Rezko is accused of using two state boards to extort kickbacks. --- Funeral For TV Anchor Today (Sayner, WI) -- Randy Salerno will be laid to rest this morning in Crystal Lake. The Chicago TV news anchor was killed in a Wisconsin snowmobile accident last Thursday. Meanwhile, the longtime friend of Salernos accused of driving the snowmobile near Eagle River is now out of the hospital. Scott Hirschey is now formally charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. The 44-year-old returns to court next month. --- Three Tuberculosis Cases At Sears HQ (Hoffman Estates) -- Three Sears employees working at the companys Hoffman Estates headquarters have tested positive for tuberculosis. Health officials tested 40-employees after one worker came down with the illness. The Cook County Department of Public Health says two of those employees also tested positive. But its not known whether those employees got the disease from their co-worker. Some forms of TB can lay dormant for years before surfacing. --- Fingerprinting Procedure To Provide Increased OHare Security (Chicago) -- Foreign travelers entering OHare Airport must now be fully fingerprinted and have their pictures taken before they are allowed to enter the country. According to a report in the "Chicago Tribune," the new system is more stringent than the index-fingerprint standard that had been in use since 2003. Authorities say any traveler between the ages of 14-and-79 who applies for a U.S. visa or who displays a foreign passport at ports of entry is required to be scanned, while U.S. citizens and permanent residents are exempt. A spokesman for the U.S. Customs and Border Protections Chicago office says the additional information will help prevent the use of fake IDs, protect visitors from ID theft and keep criminals out of the United States. --- Proposed Medical Examiner Budget Cuts Could Cause Problems (Chicago) -- Proposed budget cuts for the Cook County Medical Examiners Office could severely hamper the citys processing of dead bodies. Medical Examiner Dr. Nancy Jones says if her office is only open eight-hours a day bodies would have to go someplace else. That would result in an overcrowding of bodies and severe delays or cancellations of a variety of services for families and funeral directors. Also, investigators would no longer be sent to the scene of some crimes. Groups who oppose the cuts include various suburban Chiefs associations and representatives from metro Orthodox Jewish and Muslim communities. Cook County Board President Todd Stroger wants a two-cent increase in the county sales tax to deal with the 2008 budget deficit. --- Billion-Dollar Clean Coal Project In Doubt (Washington, DC) -- The central Illinois town of Mattoon likely wont host the clean coal research center and power plant known as Futuregen after all. Department of Energy officials have decided to pull funding for the project, effectively killing it. FutureGen was supposed to be an 800-million-dollar clean coal venture, but costs quickly jumped to over a billion-dollars. The Department of Energy warned FutureGen officials and leaders in Illinois that the selection last year might not be official. Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich says the move smacks of politics. Hes issued a statement saying the move "deceived the people of east central Illinois." State officials say FutureGen would have pumped a billion-dollars into the Illinois economy. Leaders in Springfield and in Washington say the only hope for the project may now lie with President Bush. --- Woman Accused Of Puppy-Napping (Crystal Lake) -- Crystal Lake police are looking for a woman suspected of stealing a puppy worth eleven-hundred-dollars from a pet store Monday evening. Police say the woman and her three-children entered the store and began playing with a nine-week-old Boston terrier inside an enclosed area. Two of the children then went to a different area of the store and asked an employee to show them some aquariums. Around 7:45 p.m., the woman was captured on a surveillance camera leaving the store with her children, carrying a large leather bag that appeared to be full.
