Update-The former Oak Hill Middle School treasurer accused of stealing $40,000 from the school was in and out of jail in about an hour.
Sherri Loehr turned herself in at the Vanderburgh County Jail at 7:30 Monday morning.
She was released on a $500 bond by 8:30.
On Friday EVSC officials announced they discovered the missing funds during a routine audit.
Loehr is due back in court Wednesday.
Original story Friday, February 1: Approximately 40,000 dollars worth of book rental money is missing from an Oak Hill Middle School. The school's treasurer, Sherri Loehr, has been charged with taking it over a three year period. The money was discovered missing during the school corporation's regular bi-annual audit this fall. Officials say once they learned of the news, they acted immediately. Loehr was placed on an investigative suspension and the results of this audit filed with the Office of the Attorney General. Loehr has since submitted a letter of resignation according to school officials and is no longer employed by EVSC, where she worked for since 1988. The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office is investigating the case along with other law enforcement agencies. Although Loehr has not been arrested, she has been charged with theft over $200.
