State Police Arrest Drunk Driver after Altercation

News Release From Indiana State Police: State Police Arrest Drunk Driver after Altercation Knox County – Sunday night, February 3, at approximately 9:56 p.m., Indiana State Police and Knox County Sheriff’s Department were investigating a domestic complaint at a residence on South Wabash Street in Oaktown. As the officers were outside they noticed a 1996 Chevrolet full size pickup truck stop in the roadway nearby. The driver was later identified as Perry Kingsley, 59, of Harold, KY. When officers signaled for Kingsley to proceed forward he turned off his headlights and stayed in the roadway obstructing traffic. Trooper Brent Clark approached Kingsley and detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage. Kingsley put his truck in reverse and started going backwards. He was ordered to stop, but he then put his truck in drive and accelerated forward. As the truck proceeded southbound on Wabash the driver’s side mirror sideswiped Trooper Clark and then struck Knox County Deputy Mike Fisher in his chest. Kingsley continued south on Wabash and then north on Old U.S. 41. Indiana State Police and Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies were finally able to stop Kingsley when they utilized their patrol cars and boxed his truck in approximately two miles north of Oaktown. Kingsley exited his truck, refused to obey orders to get on the ground and then started to get back into his truck. Trooper Clark utilized a chemical agent before removing Kingsley from his truck and taking him into custody. Further investigation revealed Kingsley was legally intoxicated. He was taken to the Knox County Jail where he is currently being held on bond. Trooper Brent Clark did not require medical attention. Deputy Mike Fisher was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes where he was treated and later released.
