Indiana Summary: --- One Brother Goes To Hospital, Another to Jail After Shooting (Morgan County) -- One Morgan County brother went to the hospital while his brother went to jail over the weekend. Detectives say that 50-year-old Randal Davidson was transported to the hospital after he was shot in the chest and 48-year-old Russell Davidson was treated for cuts and bruises before being taken to the Morgan County Jail. Officers say that both men had been drinking, got into a fight and then starting shooting each other. Russell faces various charges today. --- Firefighters Battle Massive Blaze (Maukport) -- Firefighters from about 25 companies were called in to battle a blaze in southern Indiana over the weekend. The seven-alarm fire Saturday night at Norstram Veneers took nearly 80 firefighters to put out. Officials say initial estimates put the damage of inventory at nearly three-million-dollars and could force layoffs at the warehouse. No one was believed to be in the building at the time of the fire and officials say no one was injured. --- Lieutenant Governor Travels To Mexico For Trade Mission (Indianapolis) -- Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman will be traveling to Mexico on a trade mission soon. She says the purpose of the trip is to strengthen the business ties between that country and Indiana. This will be her third trade mission since shes been in office. During her trip in October 2006, she took representatives of Indianas wine industry to Taiwan and Vietnam. Skillmans first trade mission was to several countries in Central America. She is to be back from Mexico February 8th. --- Here Are Sundays Winning Numbers From The Hoosier Lottery Daily Three-Evening: 8-6-1; Daily Four-Evening: 7-5-3-4; Lucky Five-Evening: 12-16-19-29-34. Kentucky Summary: (Covington, KY) -- Covington Police say they wont release the victims name until sometime today. The name of the person who died in a mobile home in Covington. At least two people tried to rescue the person from the mobile home, but the fire and smoke were too intense. (Salt Lick, KY) -- Firefighters battled a blaze in the office at the Outpost RV Park and Campground near Cave Run Lake. Firefighters poured water on a nearby propane tank to keep from exploding. There were injuries in the fire, and the office was extensively damaged. (Dawson Springs, KY) -- Voters will go to the polls in Dawson Springs tomorrow to vote on alcohol sales. If approved, alcohol sales would be permitted in establishments of at least one hundred seats and also serve food. Dawson Springs has been dry for decades. (Frankfort, KY) -- A Belfry High School graduate is now the second highest ranking officer in the Kentucky State Police. Leslie Gannon is now Lieutenant Colonel Leslie Gannon. Gannon now commands the administrative division. Gannon is now only the second woman in KSP history to achieve the rank of lieutenant colonel. (Frankfort, KY) -- Governor Steve Beshear has proclaimed this Earthquake Preparedness Week in Kentucky. The governor says earthquakes can happen, quote, "anytime, anywhere throughout Kentucky." Man Kentucky schools will participate in earthquake drills tomorrow morning. More information can be found at kyem.ky.gov (Glendale, AZ) -- Kentucky was represented in a couple of ways at the Super Bowl. Former University of Kentucky quarterback Jared Lorenzen is getting a Super Bowl ring, Lorenzen from northern Kentucky is a back-up quarterback to the Giants Eli Manning. Off the field but very visible Kent Avenido from Elizabethtown. Avenido, a 1989 graduate of E-town High School appeared in a FedEx commerical last night. The actor has appeared in commericals in three of the last four Super Bowls. (Louisville, KY) -- Tunuka the gorilla died over the weekend of peritonitis. The 45-year-old Tunuka was born in the wild in 1963, but spent most of her life at the Bronx Zoo in New York before being brought to the Louisville Zoo four years ago. Illinois Summary: --- Sixth Victim Apparently Survived Lane Bryant Shootings (Tinley Park) -- The manhunt continues for the shooter who killed five women at a suburban Lane Bryant clothing store Saturday. A sixth woman apparently survived the shootings in Tinley Park, and is helping authorities come up with a sketch of the gunman. Police Chief Mike OConnell would not confirm the reports of a survivor, saying he would not talk about witnesses or evidence. Police continue to search for the gunman in the botched robbery. He is described as a medium-complexioned African-American, about five-feet-nine, weighing between 230 and 260 pounds. At one point yesterday officials in South Haven Michigan thought they may have located a suspect, but that lead turned out to be false. --- Tinley Park Shooting Victims Remembered (Tinley Park) -- Relatives and friends of the five women killed in Saturdays shooting at a Tinley Park Lane Bryant are mourning their loved ones. They have asked for privacy, but have provided details about the womens lives. The Lane Bryant stores manager, 42-year-old Rhoda McFarland of Joliet, was once a youth pastor at a Crest Hill church and had served as a nurse in the Air Force. Staff members at Homewood-Flossmoor High School say 33-year-old Carrie Chiuso 1/81/8 CHOO-soh 3/83/8 of Frankfort was a beloved guidance counselor who sponsored more than a dozen support groups. Connie Woolfolk, a 37-year-old single mother of two from Flossmoor, started a mortgage company with her mother and held a part-time job at a Target store. Recent Northern Illinois University graduate Sarah Szafranski 1/81/8 suh-FRAN-skee 3/83/8 of Oak Forest was a 22-year-old accountant at CNA Financial. And 34-year-old Jennifer Bishop of South Bend, Indiana was a mother of three young children who worked for 13 years in the intensive care unit of Memorial Hospital there. Crosses are in place outside the Tinley Park store as a makeshift memorial to the five. The gunman remains at large. --- Shooting Impact Felt Beyond Tinley Park (Tinley Park) -- Tinley Park will keep its flags at half-staff for five days to honor those killed in Saturdays shootings. A makeshift memorial of five crosses adorned with flowers sits outside the Lane Bryant store where a gunman killed five women during what police believe was a robbery gone wrong. Mayor Ed Zabrocki says his town is in mourning, and that the shooting is a tragic reminder that violence can happen anywhere. More than 50-thousand-dollars in reward money is being offered for information leading to an arrest. Most of that money is coming from Lane Bryant and its parent company. --- Snow Blankets Chicago Area (Chicago) -- State police report at least 40 crashes as a result of last nights snowstorm. The storm blanketed the Chicago area with up to five inches of snow. The highest snow totals were recorded in Will and Grundy counties, but most of the area saw between two and four inches of white stuff. It also forced the cancellation of 250 flights, up to two-hour delays, and at one point a ground stop at OHare International Airport. Midway also saw a ground stop and delays, but no flights were cancelled. Rain is expected throughout today. --- 32-Thousand Seniors Sign Up For Free Rides (Chicago) -- Thousands of seniors are ready to catch a free ride on Illinois buses and trains. The governors office says 32-thousand seniors have pre-registered for free public transportation services that will go into effect by mid-March at the latest. Anyone 65 or older is eligible, but must sign up for the program to be able to ride the CTA, Metra and Pace for free. Governor Blagojevich pushed free rides through at the last minute when the legislature voted to raise the regional sales tax to fund Chicago-area mass transit. --- Normal Police Officer Allegedly Attacked By Suburban Teens (Normal) -- Three Northwest suburban teenagers are charged with beating a police officer on the Illinois State University campus. Normal Police say the teenagers are not ISU students, and were apparently at the college for the weekend. Nineteen-year-old Charles Kiel of Schaumburg, 18-year-old Austin Reyes of Schaumburg, and 18-year-old Nicholas Pahl allegedly attacked the plainclothes officer after he helped break up a January 26th fight. Other officers broke up the attack. The three teens are charged with aggravated battery, resisting an officer, and consumption of alcohol by a minor. Kiel is also charged with cannabis possession. --- Mitt Romney Makes Suburban Campaign Stop (Glen Ellyn) -- GOP Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney yesterday stumped in Glen Ellyn at The College of DuPage. Recent polls show Romney trailing John McCain in Illinois, but the former Massachusetts governor remains optimistic. He says he can pick up delegates in the state, and says polls are fluid and could change. A new "Chicago Tribune" poll gives McCain about 40-percent of Republican support in Illinois, one day before the Super Tuesday contest. Romney picked up only 20-percent. But the poll also showed 17-percent of Republicans remain undecided. Illinois Senator Barack Obama holds a 55-to-24-percent edge on Hillary Clinton on the Democratic side. --- California First Lady Shriver Backs Obama (Los Angeles, CA) -- Californias first couple has divided loyalties in this years presidential election. Although Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger endorsed Arizona Senator John McCain last week, California First Lady Maria Shriver is supporting Illinois Senator Barack Obama for president. Shriver is a member of the Kennedy family. She says, "If Barack Obama was a state, hed be California." Shriver says Obama is "diverse, open, smart, independent, bucks tradition, innovative, inspiring, dreamer, leader." Shriver is a former television anchor. Obama says hes honored to have Shrivers support. Californias Democratic and Republican primaries are part of Super Tuesday. --- Chicago Schools Losing Lunch Money (Chicago) -- Bad record-keeping, and not bullies, are to blame for the Chicago Public Schools losing millions in lunch money each year. The Chicago Public Schools Inspector General says the district left three-and-a-half million on the table during the 2005-2006 school year by giving free meals to kids who should be paying. The "Chicago Sun-Times" reports James Sullivans latest annual report warns that record-keeping is too vague and that kids who are eligible for free or reduced-price lunches arent filling out required paperwork. District Chief Financial Officer Pedro Martinez says losses dropped under one-million-dollars last year, and this year could be as little as 100-thousand-dollars. --- Teen Violinist To Perform At Grammys (Batavia) -- A suburban community college student will take a national stage next Sunday night. The "Aurora Beacon-News" reports 18-year-old Andrew Pearson of Batavia was selected to perform in an orchestra for the band "Foo Fighters" during the Grammy Awards. Hes one of 15 musicians from across the country chosen through the My Grammy Moment contest.
