breaking news
That same storm that pounded Powderly, Kentucky also slammed in to Central City, damaging or destroying an estimated 150 homes. There are injuries, but city officials say none appear to be life threatening. They searched door to door in the darkness after the storm, taking head counts and looking for the injured. Central City Mayor Jerry Mitchell has declared a state of emergency, and is asking people to stay away from the city unless they have an immediate need to be there. Parts of the city were also plagued by flooding during the storm. About 30 National Guard troops have been mobilized to help secure the heavily damaged neighborhoods.
