It may be the story of hope to come out of the Muhlenberg tornado. A doctor delivered a womans baby by the light of a flashlight. It happened after the tornado hit the area Tuesday and knocked out power to the Muhlenberg Community Hospital. This rural Kentucky woman has quirky connection to storms. "The one that hit Madisonville in 05, thats when my daughter was born." And the tornado that hit Kentucky in September 2006, thats when Samantha Oakly says he first son was born. If you count 7 pound one ounce Jonathan Oakly born after the storms Tuesday that would make three. Three babies she had during tornadoes. The latest devastating a large part of Muhlenberg county. "A thunderstorm is what I thought and then mom called and said it was tornadoes and stuff." It was shortly after that, that Oakley says she went into labor. Too sedated to remember every moment but not enough to keep her from recognizing that something was wrong. "When we went back there to start my c-section the lights went off. It kept like kicking on and off and they had to find flashlights." Dr. Richard Good says during his naval tour in Japan, he delivered babies in typhoons. At least Muhlenberg Community Hospital he said had generators but not not quite enough light. "The difficult part is sewing everything back up under the poor light conditions." Good says the light was bad but he was more concerned about keeping Oakly calm and getting the baby out healthy. But now that Oaklys baby boy is here and healthy, Oakly says she looking forward to just going home. Dr. Richard Good says at least one other baby was born in the hospital the night of the tornado. The hospital was still operating off a generator until early this morning.
