breaking news
An Evansville woman says shes alive tonight thanks to a police officer who saved her from a cup of coffee. Teresa Julian says its because of officer Shawn Clark that shes alive. It had already been a rough morning for Teresa, who spent almost an hour getting her car out of a frozen parking lot to get to work. But things were about to get even worse. Teresa Julian ran into problems at the intersection of Vann and Washington, while most drivers were having trouble with icy roadway, Julian was having trouble with a cup of coffee
Teresa--"I took a sip of coffee, when it went down it didnt go down the right pipe."
Teresa couldnt breathe. She was choking, but noticed a police cruiser parked in front of her at the light.
Officer Clark--"Teresa Julian came up and pounded on my window."
Teresa--"I gave the international sign for choking, he said can you breath, I went like this (shaking head), its all I could do, I couldnt breath in, I couldnt breath out."
Officer Clark immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver on Julian. Clark is trained to handle a number of situations, including the Heimlich, but never knows when or if hell have to use it.
Officer Clark-- "I never anticipated having to use this especially at a stoplight on a busy street like Vann Avenue."
Officer Clark thinks nothing of what happened, and says anyone in his shoes would have done the same thing, but Teresa Julian believes Clark was put in her path.
